Controlling listening volume during calls

To change handset receiver volume, press VOL key.  There are three volume steps:  normal, loud, and very loud.  After the phone has been “on-hook” for a few seconds, the handset receiver volume automatically resets itself to "normal volume."  Each of the first two presses of the VOL key raises the volume by one step.  The third press of VOL resets it to "normal."  This sequence then repeats as the VOL key is pressed:  Normal, loud, very loud, back to normal, and repeat. To change speakerphone volume, use the slide control on the right side of telephone.  Sliding this knob towards the rear of telephone increases speaker volume.  When using speakerphone, experiment with speaker volume control to obtain clearest sound with fewest interruptions.  Speakerphone performance will vary from call to call.  Sometimes a very small change of speaker volume will greatly improve intelligibility and reduce "dropouts" in hearing the distant party through the speaker.

Programmable Speed-Dial Keys

There are 12 "user programmable" speed-dial keys, directly above the standard dialing keys, that can be programmed as the telephone user desires. You may enter frequently-called numbers, or perhaps telephone system features such as Call Pickup (*7) that you use often. (Please see the Features section below for a list of feature codes.) Each programmable memory key can hold up to 16 digits. Digits that can be stored include 0-9, *, #, FLASH, and PAUSE. The speed dial keys may be programmed with the following sequence. 1. Phone must be connected to a working analog telephone line. 2. Remove both the plastic and paper faceplate overlays to expose the hidden keys, STORE and PAUSE, that are used for programming. 3. Take phone off-hook, either on handset or speakerphone. 4. Press STORE key. 5. Dial key sequence to be stored. Key sequence may include digits 0-9, *, #, FLASH key, and PAUSE key, up to a total of 16 keys. 6. If needed, each PAUSE inserts a 3.6 second pause before the next digit is dialed out. PAUSE may be entered multiple times to create longer pause periods. 7. Press destination key that entire key sequence is to be stored into. 8. Repeat steps 4, 5, 6, and 7 for each programmable key to be programmed. Then hang up. 9. Test your programming by taking phone off-hook, and pressing ONE newly programmed key. Observe that the correct number is dialed out, and/or the desired telephone system feature is properly activated. Then hang up and repeat until all programmed keys have been checked for proper operation, one at a time.

To program a transfer key on the SciTech phone:

Lift Handset (wait for dial tone) Press Store button Press Flash button Press the # key Press 2 key Press Store button Press the free programmable button you want call transfer to work on (We suggest the last programmable button under the Store key) Press Store button Now when on a call you can press your newly programmed button, the person you are talking to will be placed on hold (with music) automatically. Then dial the number you want to transfer the caller to. Stay on the call if you would like to speak to the person at the number you dialed before the transfer (supervised transfer). When you hand up the call will be transferred. Or you can hand up after you hear the phone ring and the call will be transferred (direct transfer)

Voicemail messages:

The [MSG] button is programmed to dial the correct number to reach the voice mail system. To do so, follow these instructions: 1. Either lift handset or press SPKR to take telephone off-hook. 2. Press the [MSG] button. The telephone will dial out the correct number to access the voice mail system. Note: telephone must be off-hook on either handset or speakerphone first, before pressing the touchbar. 3. When the voice mail system answers and prompts for your password, enter it using the standard dialing keys. 4. When finished listening to voice mail, replace

Message Waiting Indicator

The Message Waiting Indicator button will either light up steadily or blink slowly whenever a voice-mail message is waiting for the telephone user. The message-waiting indicator only operates while the telephone is "on-hook."

Features

To use feature keys and programmable speed-dial keys, first take telephone off-hook by either lifting handset or pressing SPKR. Then, press the desired feature or speed-dial key.

Note: The FLASH key may used to access certain telephone “system” features. It has the same effect as “tapping” the hookswitch. FLASH may be stored in programmable speed-dial memory keys, along with other digits.

In case of trouble with programmable keys
Programmable speed-dial key memory contents are both protected against accidental loss due to disconnecting the telephone from the telephone line, or by the telephone system itself experiencing a power failure.

On rare occasions, a power surge or extremely high static electricity discharges near the telephone may cause the telephone to "lock-up." If this happens, some of the telephone’s feature keys may become temporarily inoperative. To reset, simply disconnect the telephone from the external phone line for approximately 20 seconds by unplugging the modular cord at the rear of the telephone, and then reconnecting the cord.

Also, the telephone’s “programmable” speed-dial keys may sometimes need to be re-programmed following exposure to excessive levels of static electricity. Should this happen, please reduce static electricity levels near the telephone by spraying “anti-static” spray on nearby carpets, chair mats, and upholstery. Then follow the instructions above to re-program the “programmable” keys.
